What Does AVYN mean?
AVYN (pronounced ā-vən, rhymes with haven) is…(spoiler alert)...a made-up word. But it’s a combo of elements that come right from the heart.
Do you know how hard it is to name a business? You want something that sounds cool (and looks cool because really, it’s all about the looks), is short, easy to remember, and isn’t already taken. Finding something to check all of those boxes is like searching for a needle in a haystack.
We searched high and low for a word that captured our brand and nothing seemed to be the right fit (sounds like bra shopping, right?). We had everything from acronyms to our kids’ names as possibilities. We even tried to be one of the cool brands that leaves all the vowels out but decided we weren’t that cool.
Our co-founder, Chandler, was chatting with another female entrepreneur, sharing her name game struggles (honestly, naming a business is just as hard as naming a baby, if not harder). This rockstar woman gave her the best advice, which seems so obvious, but when you’re in the moment, it gets lost. Her advice: just keep looking within.
And that’s exactly what we did.
We might have taken her advice a little too literal, but we knew our hearts were in this. So we went down a path of researching the heart chakra and once we found out that this chakra is associated with balance, calmness, and serenity, we were sold. The heart chakra really won us over because it’s the center of your bonds with others and your feelings of self-love, selflessness (motherhood), generosity, kindness, and respect. Yes, yes, and more yes.
Here are the parts of the heart chakra that inspired our business name:
- A: the element is air
- V: the planet is Venus
- Y: there are designs that represent the Supreme Being and our homegirl Mother Nature and the deity of this area is Vayu (where we pulled the Y)
- N: the original name is Sanskrit is Anahata (where we pulled the N)
